Bunion Treatment in Plano, TX and McKinney, TX

A bunion is identifited by the large toe pointing inward towards the second toe. This results in an enlargement of the bone and or tissue where the big toe connects to the foot. The bone and tissue enlargement at the base of the big toe is the most obvious sign of a bunion. Bunions can be caused by hereditary bone deformations or develop over time due to various factors.

Bunion Symptoms

  • Shifted big toe
  • Pain while walking
  • Irritation and swelling at the base of the big toe

Bunion Diagnosis

A moderate to severe bunion is easily diagnosed on sight. Though an X-ray will generally follow since a bunion indicates a mild or severe bone deformation. X-rays are used to determine any exacerbating factors in order to treat the patient in a holistic manner.

Bunion Treatment

Mild to moderate bunions may be treated with orthotics and properly fitted shoes. The prescribed orthotics range from spacers, splints, and bunions cushions. A patient with bunions is advised to avoid high-heels and other narrow shoes. Improperly fitted shoes will only aggravate the condition. Also, over time surgery may be inevitable in most cases.

If you are experiencing discomfort from bunions request an appointment today. We are conveniently located in Plano, TX and McKinney, TX.
